Turkey Flat Butchers Block SMG 2010

I was super impressed with the previous vintage, so it was without question I had to have a look at the 2010. You can check out my thoughts on the Butchers Block 2009 here.

A blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre with percentages of 53/31/16 respectively, all straight from the Barossa Valley.

The nose oozes earthy, black fruit, cherry and spice characters with a gentle whiff of bark. The wine spent approximately 18 months in French oak which added nicely to its overall appeal.

I really like the palate structure. Great depth of fruit, a rustic meaty type in a way with that lovely spice flowing through from the nose. Soothing warmth on the palate calls out for a nice hearty winter meal.

A persistent finish with good grip signs off on yet another impressive Butchers Block. Readily available for $22.50 (rrp), but I have seen it discounted for just under $20 which is immense value.

This is a neat twist for those who love a GSM (just like me!).
