Jim Brand Family Reserve Cabernets 2013

A great story here. Brand's Laira sold out in the mid 90's but the family has set out to re-establish itself under the now Jim Brand label. Some smart wines have already been produced such as the Glenroy Shiraz and the Silent Partner Cabernet Sauvignon.

This Family Reserve Cabernet blend is made for the long haul. It's well worth tracking down and sticking in a dark place for a while. With all the hallmarks of a classic Cabernets, it's measured and certainly has a charm about it.

A blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc (77/15/8), the fruit selected comes from the top 1% of all barrels. Only 203 dozen were produced.

Black fruits and cassis up front before a sophisticated savoury side plays its hand. Bay leaf commonly seen in Margaret River Cabernet also rears its head - classy. Choc mint too. There's a whiff of eucalypt too. Nicely weighted but with a generous kick, the fruit cruises through without obstruction with more carry than a stock delivery from Australian bowler Josh Hazelwood. A sip all night kinda wine - but it's still a baby.

I'd love to see this in another five and then ten years to track its progress - regardless, it's a beauty.
