Chablisienne 1er Lechet 2017

It's a long story but I went to the bottle shop to get a bottle of sparkling red and I came back with this Chablis among other things. Stock take they said... So here I am with a chain store 1er Chablis reduced from $59 to $35. Can't be that bad, eh?

It was a good wine to have a look at but I wouldn't go back for another. Not for $35 let alone $59.

Weighty and rounded through the mouth, honeyed tones and preserved lemon take the limelight early. Dry with a minerally drive, some saltiness and apricot kernel swoon. Generously proportioned, melted butter and a soft creaminess introduce themselves too. Long, that persistent preserved lemon keeps chugging away. I can see some folk running to it but I'd prefer others.

Drink to eight years.

91/100
