Soul Growers Persistence Grenache 2018

A big sturdy Grenache in a big sturdy bottle. It reminds me of a fleet footed rugby centre spending the off-season at the buffet.

Grenache is a variety that can be pretty and nimble on its feet yet its added spice shows a brave side - not dissimilar to a 12 or 13 on the rugby field. But this Grenache has gone from the backs to the front row after an off-season at the buffet. It's big and bustling. Broad shouldered, the fruit is in a vice like grip dominated by Christmas cake and plummy fruit. Scents of ripe strawberries and raspberries fruit hook you in before cedar nuances chime in. A generous nudge of spice kicks in on a long and warm finish. On day two of tasting it seemed a lot more settled with rounder edges. A steak or burger would do the job nicely beside this.
