Tellurian Block 3 TLR 2016

It's  fabulous exercise sitting siblings beside one another and comparing their likeness. Tellurian's TLR stands for Top of the Long Row whereas the SR resides at the bottom of the hill - the Short Rows.

I caught up with Tellurian's Daniel Hopkins a few years ago. Where stood in a dimly lit bar solving life's issues over a few samples of Heathcote Shiraz. When checking out the TLR, SR and Tranter, Hopkins' pride couldn't have been clearer. We spoke about the making, and among other things, the price. I suggested he jack it up. I'm thrilled he's taken my advice - you now pay $42 instead of $39. Still 'unders' if you ask me but still a win for the consumer. I suspect illustrious brands would charge much more for quality like this.

Scents of red berry pie and brown spices consume the nose. The firmest in the mouth of the three releases (including Tranter and Block 3 SR), there's a minerally drive that cuts its course through the wine beautifully. Earthy, red plums and blackberries push through coating the mouth before fine cloves and dried fruit chime in late. Well balanced, the tannins are tight with a vice like grip pointing to a long future.
