Varney Wines Entrada GMT 2020

Cool autumn evenings and the bell rings for GMT o'clock. But there's no tonic here my friends. Make that a very smashable Grenache Mourvedre Touriga thank you very much.

There is a first for everything and I'm proud to admit this is my GMT debut. Barely a common blend, winemakers are seeing the beauty of Touriga more and more.

A 45/30/25 blend, the fruit was sourced from the McLaren Vale sub-regions of Blewitt Springs, Seaview and Whites Valley seeing 2-3 days cold soaked with some whole bunch fermentation and a short time in old French oak.

Poured into the glass an attractive cerise house captures the eye. The gorgeous Grenache delivers raspberry and red frog aromas. There's some energy here. The label says 'playful' and winemaker Alan Varney has nailed it. It skips about the mouth joyously with a beautifully filled out mid-palate leading to a pepper steak tease to close. It's long with fine spices and just oozes good times. Devilishly medium-bodied, you can't help but tap your foot to the beat as this just struts its stuff. With a quick jab of firm tannin, a tasting turned into some drinking. But hey, don't judge me. You try resisting another pour.

Drink now to three years.
