From fifty-year-old Barossa vines, this Cabernet Shiraz blend is firm and abrasive on opening. A day on and it is a different wine entirely. A lesson in giving a wine time to find itself.
A 75/25 blend, the fruit was co-fermented. Only 150 dozen were produced.
Blackberry jellies, juniper and berry pie get your attention. Char and smoke take cover and sit very much in the background. Mouthfilling, it picks up the tempo with an impressive vibe before finishing plush, long and powdery to close. Above all, patience is the reward. I suspect it will improve furthermore with bottle age too.
Decant well in advance or age gracefully.
