Nanny Goat Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

This Chardonnay from Nanny Goat has just landed in Australia (quite literally). Big thanks to winemaker Alan Peters-Oswald and the Joval crew as it hits the trade this week. Although I've seen the Nanny Goat Pinots, this is the first time I've had the chance to sample one of the Chardonnays. I just learnt the first release was in 2012.

Glistening with a golden straw appearance, there is a silky and seductive feel to this wine. It strides out with a laid back persona, perhaps it comes with the territory. Nanny Goat sits on the northern end of the Central Otago wine district and a stone's through from that cool little holiday village known as Wanaka.

Brioche, lemon juice, almond meal and a delicate cashew nuttiness all mesh with ease. The delivery is the killer blow. Sliding down dangerously without obstruction, grapefruit shines. Persistent in its finish, it leaves a lemony tang in its wake. Really clever stuff. Pour me another - make it large.

Drink now to five years.
