Carillion Origins Old Grafts Semillon 2021

A curious name for a wine given the 'Old Grafts' are vine cuttings from the famed Braemore vineyard. Old Cuttings may be more suitable? Oh, to quibble about nonsense...

Planted in 1994 at the Tallavera Grove site, this wine is quite flat which is dissimilar to the hills that surround the winery in Mt View. A swirl of the glass and I find the nose is muted. Some citrus feels and a little tang through the mouth plus a suggestion of minerality make an effort but that moves on quickly. Above all, there is nothing excitable wanting me to charge back for more. For the money, it's a big ask in a district with more interesting expressions of Semillon for much less outlay. But hey, that's me...

Drink now.
