Wren Wines Reserve Shiraz 2019

I've been fortunate enough of late to have a look at a couple of labels that are new on the scene in the Hunter Valley. Wren is the brainchild of Renee Burton, a previous owner and co-founder of Gundog Estate. With eye-catching labels, these wines are clever.

Made by all round good guy Scotty Comyns, this Reserve Shiraz 2019 demonstrates a classy swagger. It's a really enjoyable Shiraz, there are no two ways about it. Earthy with red fruits and dark cherries, there is a captivating depth about its medium-bodied frame. So Hunter in profile, fine spices and soft pepper carry themselves with grace and intrigue. A sleight of hand from blueberries comes to the fore with time in the glass. One glass won't be enough. Clever stuff indeed.

Drink to eight years.
