Hayes Family Wines Alice's Mataro 2021

The last Alice's Mataro release was 2019 so it's good to see it in bottle once again. From the impeccable Barossa 2021 vintage, this is an attractive wine inside and out.

Named after the owner's daughter, my last review didn't go down so well given I suggested he buy his daughter the horse she has always yearned for. We even got #BuyAliceAPony trending but to no avail. Oh well, I tried. But get this Mataro trending in your belly. It's a ripper. A variety that winemaker Andrew Seppelt loves dearly, you can be assured he gives it that extra bit of TLC.

Some blueberries rise to the surface to suck you in. It's juicy with the fruit holding the torch before those meaty and savoury characters swoop driving the savoury profile long and wide. Attractive crimson edges glisten in the glass. Silky feels and fine spices tap away with pan juices to a gloriously long finish that leaves the mouth with a dusty caress. A night by the fire, a charcuterie board or even a prosciutto di parma pizza - you choose.

Drink to five years.
