My first look at Long Gully Estate - a small Yarra Valley winery that has had its fair share of turmoil in recent years. It's great to see small businesses like this bouncing back. I like this Pinot. It's a respectable drink.
It opens with scents of tea tree, twigs and dried leaves - an undeniable autumnal presence. Very savoury, it's dry with dark cherry fruit playing a secondary role. A postage stamp dab of texture lands smack bang in the middle of the palate and it leaves a slippery and dusty tannin. Some warmth latches itself to that stamp zone, too, but moves on in time. I'd happily enjoy a glass on a lazy afternoon, and perhaps I did just that.
