Thomas Wines Sweetwater Shiraz 2020

The 2020 Hunter Valley vintage was a challenge and it is no more evident with Andrew Thomas' minuscule releases. Normally releasing a vast array of Shiraz from across the district, Thommo's scrupulous fruit selection resulted in only three Shiraz being released. And in true Thomas Wines style, no stone was left unturned to deliver the best wines possible.

Oh to be a fly on the wall watching him go about his work. His precise selection of fruit only saw 320 cases of the Sweetwater released - about half a 'normal' year.
This is ripe, dry and muscular but very much on the medium-bodied spectrum. Thommo says proudly this is his best Hunter Shiraz of 2020 and with great confidence suggests it is the best in the district. He doesn't make outlandish statements either - when Thommo speaks, turn and listen.
Sleek, it's fine and pretty all the way through to an elegant finish. Precise supple tannins are quite compelling and really strike you. Blue fruits sing with some of that Hunter earthiness ringing true. It's comforting and damn enjoyable. Well played.
