Mount Pleasant 1880 Vines Old Hill Shiraz 2021

What a privilege this is to see in its youth. Give this the time to emerge from its chrysalis to witness a beautiful, medium-bodied Hunter Valley delight shine in all its glory.

This is all things wonderful but be patient. Over a few days of tasting, it was clear that your patience will be rewarded. Mind you, wines like this aren't made for now so it's a worthy investment if you can reach deep into your pockets.

Bountiful and energetic, red berries and red cherries dance to the beat. They're joyous and voluminous yet keeping the medium-bodied profile that the Hunter does oh so well. Scents of red apple peel chip away. Raspberry rope and some char slide in subtly too.

Time in the glass sees black fruit starting to shoulder its way forward - and that's the money shot. That black fruit trait in the Hunter is the holy grail. Coming off red soils on an impeccable 1880 planted site, the earthy and regional nuances are in full flight. Quite expressive, that youthful exuberance is intoxicating yet the narrative is set and ready for it to get down to business. Just brilliant!
