Robert Stein Museum Release Riesling 2017

These Robert Stein Rieslings seem unstoppable. Be it the new releases of the dry Riesling, those with residual sugar or these museum releases, just sit back and embrace the beauty. This Museum Release 2017 is available exclusively for members as well as those who partake in a museum tasting flight at the cellar door ($20). It was a thrill to taste this at the cellar door with winemaker Jacob Stein.

Briar Ridge Briar Hill Chardonnay 2017

A museum release from Briar Ridge, this Chardonnay is all arms and legs early but it then settles into a neat groove. Give it some time to compose itself and it comes good. Really good.

Josef Chromy Brut Finesse Rose 2017

What a delightful fizz we have here from Josef Chromy. An energetic bead and blush appearance on the eye, it slides down all too easily.

Gaelic Cemetery Premium Shiraz 2017

What a treat it is to sit this beside its 2016 predecessor. In comparison, it is more refined and polished as it slides through with silky and velvety feels. A smart example of Clare Valley Shiraz with six years of bottle aging already done for you.

Spinifex Late Release Riesling 2017

If aged Riesling spins your wheels, get amongst this late release from Spinifex. Wonderfully concentrated, it still has many years of pleasure ahead.

Chaffey Bros Tripelpunkt Riesling 2017

A museum release from Chaffey Bros, I was fortunate enough to give this a road test at Artisans of Barossa recently. With over 40 wines on tasting, there are plenty of gems to uncover. If aged Riesling is your thing, this is a beauty.

Mount Langhi Ghiran Blanc de Blanc 2017

Grampians Blanc de Blanc. It's light on the fizz, the first thing that caught my eye. A little more energy and spark would have been good. The cork was awfully pedestrian in its exit and needed some persuasion only to be missing a 'pop' of any sort. It could be bottle variation?

Parched Crow Semillon 2017

Good gear this. A six year old Semillon from a relative newbie on the Hunter scene - The Parched Crow. It shows a gradual development with a few years left under its wings.

The Parched Crow Shiraz 2017

Dense and concentrated, this Shiraz from the Hunter Valley's Parched Crow walks through the door with arms wide open ready to give an embrace.

Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz 2017

Yalumba's flagship Shiraz. Long and moreish, this Octavius is best suited for those late night D&Ms. Sip slow and stay a while.

Yalumba The Menzies Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Primo Yalumba Cabernet from one of the sweet spots for the variety in Australia, Coonawarra. This is an excellent wine. I could sit in a corner and sip this all night and not feel guilty that I didn't share a drop. What a glamour!

Levantine Hill Colleen’s Paddock Pinot Noir 2017

Hold 'em back! Too many Australian Pinot Noirs are released too young. But isn't it great to see something hit the shelves with five years on it? What a precious gem this is. Boom!

Bundalong Wines Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

What a find! I tasted this at the Coonawarra Roadshow and was instantly impressed. For $30, it is an insanely delicious Cabernet. Get around it.

De Iuliis Aged Release Semillon 2017

Aged Semillon is a beautiful thing. It was great to see the 2016 and 2017 aged releases from De Iuliis side by side. I preferred this 2017 to the 2016.

Moorilla Extra Brut 2017

Muse is 'the subtle and complex' so the label says. And this exemplifies that. A fabulous glass of fizz from Tasmania's Moorilla, I'd happily recommend this ahead of those imported Frenchies at the same price point.

Huntington Estate Bin No13 Shiraz 2017

This batch of Shiraz didn't fit the reserve range so it was kept on its own - smart move. Seeing 15% new oak for 18  months, it's a little bit different. But good different as some may say - it's like a Cherry Ripe in a glass.

Huntington Estate Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

These latest releases from Huntington Estate have to be consistently the best I've seen across the range for a number of years. Bravo! The top end reds are in some serious form. This Cabernet is a treat and will reward further cellaring but there is no reason why you can't rip in now.

Simpson Estate Jenny Cabernet Merlot 2017

A wine that grows on you, for a label I don't know much about I walk away suitably impressed. Very nicely done here.
