Winemaker Steve Flamsteed says he isn't waiting for spring to drink this. I hear him. "It's inspired to a fair degree by what is being imported out of southern France, but I was also intrigued by the perfume of early picked Yarra Valley Pinot Noir," he says.
This tasting finished into a drinking - in no time the bottom of the bottle was visible. 100% Pinot Noir from the Sexton Vineyard.
Red currants, watermelon husk, pomegranate and touches of fairy floss. Sheets of sour cherry push through. A little tart to taste, fine textural feels coat the palate. Handfuls of strawberry make a contribution with red berry fruit running riot plus a red apple crunch for good measure. Tinges of musk sit on the flank. A faint dusting of pepper rattles home late and hangs long. Such a super slurp. Go hard and seek it out.
