Peter Thompson Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

The newest label to land on the Coonawarra strip with the cellar door in the middle of little Penola town.

I know little of Peter Thompson's background but I do know these wines are contract made.

My first look at any of these wines and I found the aromas seem to be playing hide and seek. Despite some coaxing, nothing skipped out. It tastes of cedar and cloves with dark berry fruit and char. A handy introduction. A smattering of dried herbs skirt the edges but through the mouth it's quite firm and tight. Curiously, the fruit stops short. A wine which mirrors the Australian batting line up from a  few years ago - no opening, no finish and reliant on the middle order. Hard to recommend.
