Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2019

Australia's best Chardonnay? Absolutely! The focus and purity are something else here. What a glamour! A sublime wine and then some.

It's focused and precise - but give it some time to find its feet given its tension on opening. Grapefruit and lemon juice are seemingly drip-fed through the mouth. Raw cashews and hazelnuts tuck in behind with a sheet of vanilla draped over the top as lemon zest runs long. The amount of money Leeuwin Estate spends on quality French oak is not lost here as it is wonderfully measured and balanced. As I keep sipping I find the veneers of interest keep folding over one another - the detail is simply glorious. If you ever get the opportunity to go here, sip slow and embrace, then stand and applaud. I've never given 98 points - a fair wine to break that duck.
