Dom Valentine knows a thing or two about Chardonnay having spent some time at Oakridge before breaking out to his solo venture. The fruit for this great expression is sourced from the Lone Star Creek vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley.
Flinty and struck match things are going on as soon as you put it to your nose. Barbecued peach, figs and roasted cashews all want a piece of the action. There's a bit of barbecued pineapple in there too. With a little extra body that brings some depth with it, it fills the mouth beautifully. The acid has a precision that makes you stand to attention. A really clever and considered wine, it's classy stuff.
Drink to eight years.
