Australia's premier Viognier without question, this is another excellent release from Yalumba.
Generous but not heavy-handed, this is one of the spiciest Virgilius releases I can recall.
Coming off vines planted in 1980, cinnamon and ginger drive with purpose flanked by yellow peaches and the expected fresh apricots. A wine with a lovely texture, it leaves some peach skin feels feathered through the mouth. Drops of lemon juice, slivers of almonds, a delicate creaminess and a suggestion of Ciabatta add interest.
I felt this release is better suited with food, think pork belly or even scallops with a touch of ginger.
