I must admit, I've never had a Sauvignon Blanc that was over ten years old. No one I know keeps them and nor do I. This Terre à Terre sample landed on the doorstep and what a surprise it was.
From a close-planted vineyard 1.5m x 1.5m, scents of kerosene and brine rise up. Intense with concentration, it is not what I expected. In short, it has similarities to an aged Riesling - the aromas, the profile and the feel - quite beautiful really.
The acid is alive and wraps a cordon around the palate. Lemon balm, lemon rind and juice muse with lanolin and some citrus pith. The concentration and focus is next level, though - wow! The length seems almost unstoppable and is akin to a generous ball of flavour rolling about. A wine that will live for another long while yet, this is an excellent expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
