Strawberries and cherries are all the rage and the slurpability factor is super high. There are cool wine bar vibes about this Montalto Pennon Hill Pinot Noir.
Winemaker Simon Black loves carbonic maceration and 18% of this wine sees it. Nine months in French oak (19% new) finishes the job.
A little more concentrated than previous releases, it radiates good times and joy. Savoury characters surge led by briar, dried leaves, undergrowth and mushroom compost. That earthy drive really comes through. Dark plums provide depth and an even keel with some clenched fist tension keeping the curiosity levels high. A smart Pinot - you shouldn't think anything less from Montalto.
