One of the best Yalumba Signature releases to date, this 2021 celebrates the 50th vintage. Still incredibly humbly priced in my opinion, this is a most enjoyable wine to enjoy now but as proven many times over, it will age beautifully.
Each vintage of The Signature is named in honour of an individual who has made a significant contribution to the culture and traditions of Yalumba. Chris Gerhardy is the signatory on this occasion after dedicating 50 years to the business.
From vines with an average age of 49 years, this 53/47 blend sees 19 months in French and Hungarian oak.
The Cabernet stands tall and shows its hand early. Roasted capsicum wrestles with dark cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants. Silky and detailed, this wine is synonymous with fabulous Cherry Ripe appeal and that dark chocolate does not disappoint. Time in the glass sees licorice, dried herbs and woodsy spices rise up. Superfine and delicate spices curl around the mouth with sweet blackcurrant fruit rushing late. Chewy black tea and brick dust tannins draw out a long and persistent finish. Handled brilliantly once again by winemaker Kevin Glastonbury, this is another glorious Signature.
