Carlei Estate Cosmoir Viognier 2017

An aged delight from Carlei Estate. The 2012 Chardonnay was a treat and this 2017 Viognier with eight years already under its belt is no slouch. Pardon the bottle pic as it is yet to be released, but you get the idea...

Hypnotic scents of baked apricots, apricot nectar reduction, herbal tea, yellow flowers and ginger. These flow seamlessly to the flavour profile where they are met by gingerbread, white pepper and sencha. The acid is lively and bounces on the balls of its feet showing it's not going to lie down anytime soon. The richness and depth coat a thick layer of interest that holds its form on a persistent finish that urges another sip. The longer I sit with this, the more it grows on me. It's a really interesting and thought provoking expression of Viognier - winning!
