Another peak performance from the best Viognier in the land, I enjoyed a sneak peek of this Yalumba Virgilius over lunch, enjoying some delicious pan-seared Canadian scallops by its side for the win.
I would have preferred a longer look at the wine, but the positive vibes were spilling from every crevice - what a beautiful, fresh and precise Viognier this is.
Wonderfully aromatic, white fleshed stonefruit, apricot nectar, marscapone, pastry, almond meal and ginger nut biscuits were the heroes. Add some citrus zest to up the tempo and some licks of vanilla from 10 months in seasoned French oak, and once again, the splendour of this Yalumba stunner is in fine form.
From previous experience, don't be afraid to decant this wine to see it glisten furthermore, and most importantly, don't serve it too cold.
