This wine is a collaboration of Mudgee wines which received a Gold medal at the Mudgee show 2012. Of the gold medals, only four wineries made a contribution to this 2013 edition. It seems collaboration projects are rare but there are a few out there. Examples exist such as a few McLaren Vale winemakers banding together for the Archibald Project and the folk at Four Winds in Canberra facilitating a group effort (thanks Max Allen for the info on that). Some grey areas exist though with this package and how it was put together. After a bit of research it's more complicated the more I dig. Time to focus on the wine though...
Made by Jacob Stein from Mudgee's Robert Stein winery, there's classic Shiraz Cabernet characters here. A cherry ripe type thing going on with some dark chocolate interwoven nicely flanked by dried Mediterranean herbs and peppery spice. Soft in delivery it finishes with a dusty, drying tannin. Quite moreish which is fine by me.
Not easy on the hip pocket but damn easy to enjoy. Personally, it falls just short of a gold medal for me but it's worth a look if you can find it.
Very good+
