What a wonderfully balanced sparkling red. Hello to the first release of Zema Estate's Sparkling Merlot.
Sparkling red has me thinking about a special occasion breakfast, Christmas Day and the Coonawarra Vignerons Cup - a day where local producers have the red fizz flowing at 9:30am in the VIP tent. If you ever need to get a slice of country hospitality, definitely pop the day in your diary.
Plonked on the bar, this new release will fit in beautifully with other sparklers from the region.
After spending 8 months in barrel, blackberries and fruit cake are laced with brown and baking spices. Delicate blue fruits ease their way in before plums take hold. A deft touch of mint sneaks up late too. Wonderful persistence is delivered with elegance. Great stuff - I'm a big fan.
