I didn't point this as highly as the Henk, Willowlake and Hazeldine, but gee I loved drinking it. And that's fundamentally it. Don't drink to points, drink to what you enjoy the most. This Barkala just talks to me as it whispers in my glass.
Perhaps it's that fraction bit more weight in the glass compared to its stablemates? Maybe it's that flint and smokiness that is a little more proclaimed? Ah, just love it and don't overthink it!
Almond meal, flint and struck match early. A hint of green mango and pineapple before white nectarine and grapefruit go about their work. It has a little more textural grip too. I suspect this has a little bit of the middle child syndrome as it shoulders its way forward - don't forget I'm here too! Dangerously moreish, minerally feels add to the pleasure factor. Some tension on close, it walks tall with pride. I like this - a lot
