Yalumba The Steeple Shiraz 2020

Lying in the shadow of the Light Pass Immanuel Luthern Church steeple, it's clear where this Barossa Shiraz from Yalumba gets its name. From a Biodynamic site planted in 1919, this 2020 release is glossy with some juicy vibrance.

Spending 16 months in French oak, I felt this release was a notch back from the incredibly silky and joyous 2019 release. In its own right, this 2020 is delightful, balanced and evocative.

Mulberries, blueberries and a swathe of dark berries consume the mouth. Cedar, black earth, ferrous things and iron filings add some stirring detail. It's a wine that builds depth and density the longer it sits and I say that after having it open a few hours and tasting it again the following day. Dark chocolate builds a presence late with fine black tea tannins having the last word on a long and drying finish. A keeper, this will live comfortably beyond a decade.
