Golden in the glass, this Fiano from In Praise of Shadows glows like a late-afternoon sunset.
Poached and canned pears provide a wonderfully rounded introduction, followed by apricot kernel, golden apple and a lick of lemon sorbet. There’s plenty of intrigue here, with a faint honeyed presence adding another layer of charm. Partial barrel fermentation brings nougat and almond meal, while fine white pepper and cinnamon spices weave through the palate. The texture is the real star, blanketing the mouth with a deliciously comforting feel while retaining just enough tension to keep everything rolling along. And the drive is thrilling. It’s generous without being heavy, textured without losing freshness and incredibly moreish. A terrific expression of Fiano with plenty to explore, I’d enthusiastically recommend this.
