Dark, generous and loaded with chocolatey goodness, this Barossa Shiraz from Corryton Burge brings plenty to the table, but it's the oak that wants a sizeable slice of the conversation.
Plums, blackberries and spiced fruit cake provide the fruit foundation before dark chocolate torte, chocolate brownie and vanilla bean take things into more indulgent territory. Eighteen months in French oak has certainly left its mark, flexing its presence and seemingly dominating the fruit. There’s plenty of substance through the palate, with fine, drying tannins laying down a powdery sheet that gives you something to chew over. An impressive length offers much to ponder with those dark berry flavours hanging around long after the glass has been laid to rest. Decant this one. Tasted over several days, it showed there’s more to discover with time and air.
