Although it already has three years in the bag, there's a youthful tension here that remained evident even on day two of tasting. As ever with Curly Flat releases, it never fully unwound, instead holding its shape with a quiet confidence that suggests patience will be rewarded.
It's worth noting that the 2024 was released prior and I reviewed it back in February.
Seeing 16 months in oak (20% new), dark cherries, strawberries and a scatter of blueberries provide the fruit core, but this is very much a savoury affair. Tilled earth, black tea, dried twigs, pine mushrooms and layers of leaf matter bring plenty of complexity, drawing the wine firmly into earthy territory. A scattering of soft spices drift through the palate adding further layers of detail. I kept coming back to its restraint. Nothing feels forced or exaggerated. Instead, it moves with purpose, revealing its layers gradually and encouraging a second and third look. This shapes as a Pinot Noir with its best years still ahead of it. Winning!
