A new label from De Bortoli. A Victorian Pinot Noir but the detail on the label is scant. But it is said to be 'fragrant, fun soulful and vibrant'.
Sourced from Heathcote, King Valley and the Yarra Valley, I can't say I have had Pinot from Heathcote before.
Sure there are pretty scents of red flowers and berries, but it comes across more like a lighter bodied Shiraz. Big, mouth-sapping tannins make this a wine that needs food by its side. Red plums and dried herbs step up late with ripples of firm spices, but the mouth is left drying with chalky feels. It's not a Pinot I would chase down.
Drink to five years.
