Quite a different wine to the Tuerong, this Merricks Single Vineyard is a beautiful Pinot that just hums along.
More lavender and less mint was my initial thought when compared to its sibling. Much firmer, there is some grip and tension. Focus is possibly a better word too. It hones in the mid-palate and doesn't let go. Red currants and red berries overflow with a dark cherry concentration. Swirl the glass a while and the savoury side comes out to play highlighted by an earthiness, sauteed mushrooms and some dried leaf matter. There is a lick of warmth as well. Finely spiced with a shimmer of peppery spices, it's long and persistent. Yep, it's quite beautiful really.
Drink to eight years.
