I love it when wines that I have never come across find their way onto the tasting bench. This Palliser Estate Pinot turned up recently and what a joyous Pinot it is. A fabulous example of Martinborough Pinot Noir.
Martinborough isn't in the New Pinot Noir dress circle but it sure is making the right noises and deserves to be noticed. This white label release is only available in Australia - head to New Zealand and the same wine has a green sticker on the front of the bottle.
And the wine? Quite simply, I just adored its flow. It moves and sways freely yet possesses layers of interest. Plums and tilled earth, the word 'autumnal' comes to mind with dried leaves getting some attention. Dark cherry fruit muses with soft spices but it's the swagger that keeps me coming back time and time again. Long and beautifully balanced, enjoy now or hold. Come at me. A super Pinot!
