My experience with Pecorino is limited but I know what I like and I could get incredibly comfortable with this De Iuliis 2024 release. It's excellent stuff.
From the slopes of the Steven Vineyard that hug the northern perimeter of lake opposite the Hunter Valley Gardens, Mike De Iuliis was the first to plant the variety in the region back in 2020.
Native to the Abruzzo region in Italy, it is worth noting that Pecorino the wine has no connection to Pecorino the cheese.
Hand-picked and barrel fermented, waves of white fleshed nectarines, pears, lemon balm and ginger roll in. Fresh with clean lines, wafer crackers and fine bready feels build the texture profile. A little salty, the lemony acidity is crisp and frames the palate perfectly. Beautiful drinking, you'd be safe to have this with anything you'd pair with a fresh modern Chardonnay, or you could easily just embrace it on its own with the afternoon breeze blowing in your face. Give me some fresh seafood thanks! Great stuff!
