One of three Pinots from Adelaide Hills producer Lambrook, there is some density and spice here that pushes me away.
It opens with a wrestle between its muscular frame and that spicy detail, the latter seemingly getting the upper hand. It feels a touch warm (note 13% alc) and comes across in some respects as a lighter bodied Shiraz rather than the delicacy of what Pinot Noir should be. Sure, there are some plums and dark berry fruit nuances within, but the lacy and delicate presence that you'd expect from the variety isn't quite here. Cedar, pine needle and orange peel show some savoury appeal but that spice and warmth steal the show and not in a good way. I'd prefer others.
