Swirling the glass and absorbing the aromas takes me back to San Gimignano, that cosy Tuscan village where life is dialled back and calls for considered, composed wines like this Angullong Fossil Hill Sangiovese.
Ripples of smoky and meaty things welcome you with arms wide open, but I can't help but want to fall into its embrace. Dark cherries, cola with an ocean of dense plums, it provides comfort and composure in equal doses. Fine cocoa-like tannins cling to a moreish and persistent finish. Terrific drinking and a great buy for the asking price, well played.
