From Cooks Lot comes this character-laden Chardonnay that is fresh, textural and has just enough funk to keep things interesting.
A subtle saline edge immediately gets my attention, with custard powder, lemon juice and lemon sherbet building a bright, energetic core. There's a fleeting cheesy note that comes and goes, but rather than detracting, it adds character and somehow elevates my desire for a bowl of cacio e pepe. Wafer biscuits and caramel drops bring a gentle richness, while a delightful sheet of Mediterranean tonic-like texture coats the palate with interest. Lean through the core, it tightens noticeably towards the finish, where a grapefruit tang brings everything into sharp focus. Great stuff.
