Zema Estate Family Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

With seven years already under its belt, this Zema Estate Family Selection Cabernet is still ready for the long haul. It's not as expressive or joyous as the 2018 release, but it still has plenty to offer.

Choc mint and licorice bullets lead into waves of blackberries and blackcurrants, with a touch of leafiness providing a gentle reminder of Cabernet’s varietal roots. The palate has plenty of chew, with drying cocoa-like tannins giving the wine shape and structure. It’s not showing all its cards just yet, and I suspect there’s more to come with further time in the bottle. For $50, you’re doing pretty well here. There’s enough fruit, structure and tannin to comfortably see this through another decade. It may not have the immediate charm of the 2018, but patience should be rewarded.
