Hayes Family Wines Primrose Shiraz 2018

Big and bold in the glass, there's plenty of generosity offered from this Barossa Shiraz hailing from Ebenezer, a sub-region in the north of the valley.

Fermented in oak before aging, there's certainly a heavy oak presence. Admittedly, it's early days for this Shiraz which will cellar well beyond a decade, and over that time the oak will integrate nicely. I feel the 2017 was more approachable on release mind you.

Scents of caramel, cedar, fennel, aniseed and thyme spill from the glass. Not surprisingly, it looked much more freed up on day two of tasting. Decanting is the go to drink now if you can't restrain yourself. Weighty in the mouth, the fruit is layered on thick. The tannins are still firm but that's nothing but a plus for longevity. Give it time and be rewarded.
