Curly Flat Central Pinot Noir 2019

Curly Flat's Central Block is home to their oldest vines planted in 1992. This release sees some density.

Pardon the 2018 bottle pic, one of the downsides of pre-release samples. The struggle is real. These Pinots will be officially hitting the ground in mid-May.

Tense. Focused. You get a sense that this is standing behind the door blocking your entry. 40% whole bunches were used with 23 days on skins. 27% new oak was used with the remainder in second-fill all for 16 months.

Red apples, plums, earthiness and cured meat - of the three Curly Flat Pinots this was the most savoury. Sour cherries pitch in. I pick up a bit of stalkiness too. Drying deluxe, sapping tannins really make their presence known. It settles ever so subtly over two days of tasting. In a way, it's busting out of its shirt with some bravado which pegs it back a little for me. Give it time to settle, and it will reward.
