Wine and food matching is overrated. Pour a glass of this Home Block Minchella Shiraz and have it with a packet of Freckles by your side. Job done. Oh, and this is a great wine too! It's very impressive.
From 25-year-old vines in the Tatachilla sub-region and grown on loam over limestone soils, Wes Pearson has nailed the brief once more. The shift in labelling (and the retirement of the Dogy Bros brand) has seen his focus on detail come to the fore with all sorts of titbits of information shared. A wine nerd's delight of sorts.
A hive of activity from the get-go, be welcomed by baked raspberries and blueberries, soy and oyster sauce plus some beef jus for the win. Red apple acidity zips about early but settles into a groove. Cloves and cedar chime in with a touch of cherry cola and dutch Chocolate as blackberries build some depth. The oak is well-handled and plays a wonderful supporting role. Its soothing presence calls for another sip, and another - just beautiful. A wine that will only get better with age, yes, it's mightily impressive.
