Sometimes I wish wine reviews could be as simple as, "This is brilliant! You should buy it." But life isn't that simple, is it?
Briar Ridge winemaker Alex Beckett is doing some great things at the moment and he is certainly one to watch. I enjoyed this Chardonnay so much I didn't share a drop. What a beauty it is!
Hand picked, whole bunch pressed, barrel fermented (44% new) and on full lees for 9 months before blended to tank to see out another three months prior to bottling. No fining or filtration.
Dive deep and immerse yourself in a peach pie. White fleshed nectarines, hints of mango, flutters of pineapple husk and ribbons of custard powder whisper softly. But then the show goes on... Deliciously creamy, evocative notes of vanilla and nougat sweep through before some roasted cashews add further interest. The concentration of fruit and the moreishness keep the beacon shining bright. It's just a fabulous expression of Hunter Valley Chardonnay. Give me more and give me it all.
Drink to eight years.
