The Kidman Block Shiraz from Parker Coonawarra Estate has shown very well in years gone by, but this 2023 appears to be much shyer.
From 50+ year old vines, blackberries, shades of Black Forest cake, dark chocolate torte, sweet spices, cardamom and an earthy drive are the main players. Not as expressive as previous releases, there is a damp wood and church pew like trait that rolls in late and pulls this back a couple of notches. It softens nicely enough over a couple of days of tasting but the fruit isn't shining as much as hoped.
