The Yarra Valley has found a comfortable home for Nebbiolo and this release from Soumah captures its mood wonderfully. Soft, rustic and lengthy with that fabulous tannin structure it is known for, this is a very good drink.
Tar and roses are typical descriptors that follow this variety and they a more than appropriate in this case. A red brick hue adorns the glass with violets and a red petal perfume. Dark cherries, dried lavender, tobacco and even a lick of latte all add detail. The acid and fruit walk hand in hand to further highlight its beauty. Drying, puffy pillows of tannin lace the palate with a softly spiced length that seems never-ending. This is a classic Nebbiolo done very well that will show its best with a good decant.
