These alternative varieties from Purple Hands are in a supreme sweet spot at the moment. This After Five Wine Co Aglianico is an excellent drink and exhibits everything you'd expect from its original Italian homeland.
A muscular wine drenched in tannin, give it a good decant and you'll see it at its best.
Bright purple and red fruit on opening more to black fruits, black cherries, licorice, underripe red apple, mandarin peel and some black forest cake appeal all building an inviting introduction. A wine with plenty of width and breadth, Dutch cocoa tannins take the stage and don't let go. Long and drying, those powdery tannins just sit forever sapping all moisture from the mouth. It's a wine that needs food, ideally something generous and comforting. But for what is in the glass, this is a class act. Bravo!
