Huntington Estate Grand Reserve Shiraz Cabernet 2023

A brilliant expression of the great Australian claret, this Huntington Estate Grand Reserve Shiraz Cabernet is the business. Woah! What a supreme expression this is!!

Things are on the rise with this Mudgee powerhouse. Some slight tweaks in the winemaking are telling and only for the better in my opinion. Sure, this will age forever as Huntington Estate wines have proven in the past, but there is more shape and fruit presence to absorb. Take the latest Block 3 Cabernet as another example.

From a cold and wet year, coupled with shoot and bunch thinning, yields were lower than normal. The fruit came from Block 2 (Shiraz) and Block 3 (Cabernet) seeing 70/30 French and American oak for 17 months.

Dark cherries, satsuma plums, twigs and a delightful Cherry Ripe thing going on get things on the move. Mulberry compote, a hint of cherry liqueur with a flash of baked raspberry chime in for good measure. The oak is well handled and more supportive of the fruit rather than demonstrating any dominance. Waves of woodsy and exotic spices roll out slowly and reach long with a fine powdery tannin structure seemingly endless. The flow, feel and presence only elevate the experience.

To be released in March 2025, this is a cut above and most likely the best Huntington Estate release I have seen to date. Bravo!
