Ballandean Esatate Malbec 2017

Looking back through my notes I noticed I have not reviewed a Ballandean Estate Malbec since the 2012 release. Curiously, that vintage weighed in at 14.3% alc whereas this 2017 comes in at 13%. Deliciously medium bodied, here's a wonderful alternate variety to sink your teeth into.

From vines planted in 1985, this one and a half acre site sits roughly 850 metres above.
Spending 12 months in French oak, aromas of canned plum and dry red flowers lead to handfuls of blackcurrant fruit laced with dried herbs, flashes of mint and cinnamon like spice. It's generous and persistent with an elegant marriage of fruit and oak. Soft pillows of tannin drive long to a moreish finish. Partner with meat dishes and you are the victor.

Drink now to eight years.
