The Yarra Valley has proven to be a happy hunting ground for Nebbiolo, but I felt this release from Soumah was a little off the pace.
I'm here for the powdery tannins that the variety does like no other but they just aren't there. If anything, this carries itself more like a light-bodied Shiraz.
Dried red petals, dark cherries and negroni things muse early. Blood orange, tar, black earthiness add detail but there is a warmth and spice that both tingle on a long finish. Perhaps a little more bottle age will help, but for now, I'd prefer others.
